The ingredients needed to make Idli:
  1. Prepare 1/2 cup Urad dal
  2. Take 2.5 cup Idli rice/White rice
  3. Prepare to taste Salt
  4. Take Poha (optional) (1/4 cup)
  5. Take Fenugreek seeds 1/2 tspn
  6. Make ready Dry yeast (needed in cold country)
  7. Take Fermenting and steaming steps
  8. Make ready Wash and soak urad dal and rice
  9. Prepare (6 hours)
  10. Make ready Grind dal,rice,fenugreek seeds (add yeast and salt) mix well
  11. Make ready Set the grinded/blended smooth batter aside in warm place
  12. Take Let it ferment and rise for 8 to 14 hours(depending the weather)
  13. Get (The batter need to ferment untill it rises)
  14. Take On a high flame, bring water to boil in an idli steamer pot
  15. Get Mix the idli batter gently
  16. Prepare Pour into the batter into greased tray
  17. Take Cover the pot with lid
  18. Make ready Let the idly steam for 10 minutes
  19. Get Once done, Remove the idly trays
  20. Get Let it cool down for 1 minutes
  21. Take With a help of a spoon remove idli from the tray
Steps to make Idli:
  1. Soak & Grind urad dal & rice into a smooth batter
  2. Ferment for 8 to 14 hours. Let it rise. Steam idlis. (8 minutes per tray), (i used steamer sheets)
  3. Idli can be served with any curry or chutney
