The ingredients needed to make Dal Fry:
  1. Make ready 1 cup Moong Dal
  2. Get 1 onion
  3. Prepare 1 tomato
  4. Get 8-10 garlic cloves
  5. Take 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  6. Make ready 3 green chillies chopped
  7. Prepare 1 tablespoon oil
  8. Take 1 tablespoon ghee
  9. Take 1 tablespoon butter
  10. Get to taste Salt
  11. Prepare 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  12. Get 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  13. Prepare 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  14. Prepare 1 teaspoon garam masala
  15. Prepare As needed Coriander leaves for garnish
  16. Get 2.5 cups water
  17. Prepare 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  18. Get 1 pinch hing
Steps to make Dal Fry:
  1. Wash and soak dal for minimum 30 minutes
  2. In a pressure cooker cook dal with water salt and turmeric powder. For 2 whistles.once done keep aside
  3. In a kadai heat ghee and oil, add cumin seeds and hing once they splutter add ginger, garlic, chopped chillies and allow them to fry nicely
  4. Add chopped onion and cook till soft, add chopped tomatoes and salt cover and cook
  5. When tomatoes are soft add all dry masalas except garam masala and cook nicely.
  6. Churn dal nicely to make it smooth, now add dal to the masala
  7. Add little water to adjust consistency
  8. Add garam masala, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes
  9. Once done switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves and butter, Serve with Rice or tandoori roti.
